       In an excellent day for our field, 1 of the 21
    new Australian Academy of Science fellows announced
    today

    has been elected in recognition of her research
    in statistics.

       Aurore Delaigle was born and raised in Tournai, Belgium.  She earnt
    a bachelor degree in mathematics and statistics, and masters and doctoral
    degrees in statistics from Universite Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. She
    is currently Professor of Statistics at the University of Melbourne.
     
       Aurore is internationally known for her innovative contributions to
    mathematical statistics. With a unifying theme of nonparametric methods,
    she has made transformative contributions in several statistical subfields,
    including functional data analysis and measurement error. Despite her superb
    skills as a theoretician, she is appreciated for her remarkable ability to
    communicate complex and abstract concepts in an understandable manner. Her
    papers are acclaimed for their accessibility and style and many are cited
    highly. She has received many prestigious awards, including the 2017 Snedecor
    Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies which cited
    her "fundamental and ground breaking contributions".
