Core Skills - Getting started with Storyfinding

The Research Society is presenting Getting started with Storyfinding.

This Core Skills course is designed to introduce the process of Storyfinding – working through the process from problem definition to arriving at the output of a summarised story.

This course will incorporate using tools and contemporary approaches, including using ChatGPT as part of the process.

The course will cover:

• Defining the problem
• Assessing the data resources
• Finding the main story
• Using the 4 Cs – Correlations, Connections, Contradictions and Curiosity
• Focussing the story
• Summarising the story

Who is this course for?

Suitable for everybody – but aimed at those with 1 to 5 years' experience.

Course format

• One 2-hour live session (Zoom)

• Practical Exercises to help consolidate learning – AKA Homework
• Discussion board for follow-up questions and the opportunity to discuss the practical exercises

Ray Poynter

Ray is the Chief Research Officer at Platform One, co-founder of NewMR, a Fellow of the MRS (UK), and a well-known writer, workshop leader and conference keynote speaker.

Ray has spent the last 45 years working at the intersection of research, technology and methodology. He has held director-level positions with a range of companies including Millward Brown, Vision Critical, Virtual Surveys, Intelliquest and The Research Business.
