Early Career & Student Statisticians Network

What is the “Early Career & Student Statisticians Network”?
SSA’s Early Career & Student Statisticians Network (ECSSN) is Australia’s premier group dedicated to the needs of early career statisticians. The group’s aim is to provide a forum for networking and exchanging information for student and early career statisticians from around Australia and promote their interests to the broader community.

Who qualifies as a “Early Career & Student Statisticians Network”?
To qualify as a “Early Career & Student Statistician” you either have to be studying statistics or have graduated in the last 5 years and work in a statistics related area. There are no age restrictions.

Where do Early Career & Student Statisticians come from?
Everywhere! Universities, technical institutes, federal and state government departments, research institutes, consultancies, companies… essentially, you can find early career and student statisticians scattered right throughout the community.

What does the ECSSN do?
The ECSSN creates many opportunities for students and early career statisticians to meet and mingle with peers and distinguished statisticians. It holds ECSS-specific events such as a biennial national Early Career & Student Statisticians Conference, special sessions and social events at Australian Statistical conferences, as well as state-based events: career nights, dinners, networking.

Who manages the ECSSN?
The ECSSN is headed by a Chair at the national level. For the 2020/2021 financial year, the Chair position is held by Janan Arslan.

The Chair’s main duties are to organise and coordinate Early Career & Student Statisticians' activities at the national level, and to represent the interests of Early Career & Student Statisticians at Central Council and Executive Committee meetings of the Society.

At the state level, each of the branches of the Statistical Society of Australia has a Early Career & Student Statisticians’ representative, who is responsible for coordinating activities at the branch level during the year. The current representatives are:
