In today’s webinar, Wendy will give a brief overview the work of Stats NZ, some of the key statistical roles here and how professional development is supported. Drawing on her experience of 8 years of recruitment rounds she’ll also talk about how recruitment works at Stats NZ and will share what a hiring manager looks for.
Tiana will talk about her experience as an early career statistician at Stats NZ and what it has been like transitioning from university into full time employment.
About the presenters:
Wendy Dobson started work at Stats NZ in 2009, initially working as an analyst providing methodological advice and support to a range of economic and social statistics throughout the organisation. Her work ranged from redesigning sub-annual economic surveys, time series leadership and creating the New Zealand Longitudinal Census. In 2015 she moved into a managerial role, now leading a team of 12 analysts (including Tiana) who provide statistical advice and methodological support to more than 20 different teams at Stats NZ. Wendy particularly enjoys work which relates to recruitment or professional development of others.
Tiana Whitehead is a 2022 statistics graduate from the University of Canterbury. She started her role with Stats NZ in November 2022, her main focus being around timeseries which involves dealing with the impacts on the series due to COVID-19.
