Explainable AI and Different Types of Graphs

by Carolyn Huston (CSIRO Data61)

Abstract:

There is a gap in explainable models and the ability of communities and contexts of application to understand and use so-called ‘explainable’ methods and models. This is contrary to ethical and responsible innovation goals which emphasize explainability, contestability, transparency, interpretability and similar as being necessary to building responsible AI systems which incorporate such models.

In this talk, we will examine several approaches to graph building and affiliated summary metrics in the context of electrical networks, exploring how two different approaches, with different associated cognitive models, yield different graphs and different intuitions and mathematical results in this real-world energy context. This discussion around graph building and intuition is intended to be interactional with the audience!
