Bio: Geoff Yeo

Geoff Yeo born in 1938, before the onset of the Second World War, was a Western Australian kid, and grew up on a sheep station in the East Murchison District, later spending time in the wheatbelt in WA. From these humble beginnings he went to boarding school in Perth, graduated with an honour’s degree in statistics at The University of Western Australia, and was inspired by the late great Professor Joe Gani to do a master’s degree at UWA and follow him to do a PhD at the Australian National University. From there the world was his oyster, and he pursued postdoctoral and teaching positions in the United States, England and ended up spending a significant amount of his life in and career in Demark, where his son Anders was born.

He is most proud of his son, who is now a full Professor in Denmark and a specialist in Graph Theory having written over 200 papers and at least two books. Geoff’s returned to the fold of the Western Australian community working at Murdoch University from 1988-June 2003, before retiring into an Honorary Position at the University of Western Australia, which he finished in March 2013.

He is an expert in Markov Chains, Queuing Theory, and Statistical Modelling.
