    The Centre for Transforming Maintenance Through Data Science (CTMTDS) is an ARC-supported Industrial Transformation Training Centre (ITTC). It is a unique partnership between Curtin University, The University of Western Australia, CSIRO, and industry partners Alcoa, BHP, and Roy Hill, as well as CORE Innovation Hub and the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia.

    CTMTDS is offering full-time PhD scholarships of ~AUD30,000 to engineering, mathematics, statistics, or computer science students who are interested in carrying out data science research that has immediate relevance to industry.

    The Centre's research focuses on three themes:

    1. Supporting the Maintainer through the automation of the maintenance management process;
    2. Supporting the Engineer by developing new methodologies for predicting critical equipment failure; and
    3. Supporting the Manager by optimising maintenance scheduling and execution.

    During the PhD, the student will spend at least twelve months working with and supported by the Centre's industry partners. Students will also undertake an approved 6-month internship funded by one of the industry partners.

    Whether you plan to work in industry at the end of your PhD or pursue an academic career, this is an invaluable opportunity to develop a unique understanding of industry-related research and make an impact.

    How to apply

    1. Read about the three research themes and projects at the Centre's website;
    2. Prepare a 500-word expression-of-interest (EOI) summarising your academic background and telling us why you're interested in pursuing a PhD in this field and which theme and project you feel you're best suited for;
    3. Prepare your CV and obtain a copy of your academic transcripts;
    4. Send the EOI, CV, and academic transcripts to eoi@maintenance.org.au.
