I see it as further evidence that the term Artificial Intelligence as currently applied to most things is a great marketing term, but just that – marketing and hype. If these models were truly ‘intelligent’ then model collapse wouldn’t be a problem. At best they pseudo-think. Don’t get me wrong, I use them all the time to improve my writing. But I don’t really consider them intelligent, as they lack judgment and creativity. As Noam Chomsky put it, more like digital plagiarism.

I also liked how they explained why it goes so wrong when AI trains AI - it’s like a digital version of the problem of inbreeding.

If only we could get the world as hyped up on the things we are good at. Like showing causality!

    One of my favourite topics

Been concerned about the more ignorant uses of big data for some time. Everyone increasingly mining the same and increasingly contaminated data

Apparently so-called AI is accelerating data armageddon - or is it datageddon for short

Link from last year but saw the anxious headlines last week

Are we passed the point of no return

There is evidence elsewhere of systemic collapse
