We looked at a wide range of options before making the change, including another listserv. Overall we felt it was a good time to modernise and took a risk that we might lose some subscribers who prefer the old system.

The society has received some queries about this new ANZSTAT discussion forum and the older ANZSTAT e-mail list. We understand that it is annoying dealing with two forums, both for posting jobs and for reading comments.

We set up this discussion forum anticipating that the old list was about to close down. The old list has remained open, but we hope it will close soon. The society is not in control of the old ANZSTAT list.

We think this new forum has a lot of great features compared with the old list. For example, we currently have three separate lists for jobs, events and general topics, so people have more choice in what they hear about. We could also set up new channels, for example we could set up a separate COVID stream for the many ongoing discussions in this area.
