About workshop 2: Visualising Your Data

Data visualisation is a core component of good statistical communication and we need to consider the presentation mode in considering the design of data visualisations. Effective communication of statistical findings requires the ability to produce both production-ready and presentation-ready graphics. This workshop will focus on the key aspects of creating high quality graphics suitable for conference presentations. Associate Professor Sue Finch will discuss the principles of graphical excellence, and how we can use these to produce engaging and easily interpretable graphics.

About the presenter: Associate Professor Sue Finch

Associate Professor Sue Finch is an experienced statistical consultant who has worked in the Statistical Consulting Centre at the University of Melbourne since 2004. She has consulted on over 750 projects for clients from industry, business and government, and academic staff and post-graduate students at the University of Melbourne in that time. She has expertise in the development of innovative statistical teaching and learning resources, and in the effective representation and communication of statistical data and concepts. She has broad experience in teaching statistics subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate level to students in many applied disciplines. She has a special interest in teaching and promoting statistical literacy. Sue has published with collaborators in journals in many branches of medicine, veterinary science, animal science and agriculture, applied health care and social science, as well as in statistics education.
