Canberra branch meeting -- Machine Learning at the AIHW

    SSA Canberra invites you to its April [well technically start of May!] branch meeting of 2023, which will feature Sumon Shahriar from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare present in-person (+streamed online) on the Machine Learning at the AIHW

    Time: Start at 5:45pm and finish by 7:00pm Canberra time.

    Venue: Room 5.02 in Marie Reay Teaching Centre, Australian National University (MRTC ANU),  or via Zoom. Please see the bottom of this event page for Zoom links. 

    Dinner: After the talk we will be holding a dinner at 7.15pm at Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant, 39 Northbourne Ave (West Side), Melbourne Building, Upstairs, Canberra City (cnr of Northbourne Avenue) (Home - Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant).

    NOTE: We are offering discounts to SSA early career and student members who attend dinner! For this meeting, dinners will be a fixed charge of $10 for student members and $20 for early career members.

    Speaker: Dr. Sumon Shahriar, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare

    Topic: Machine Learning at the AIHW

    Abstract: In this talk, Sumon will be presenting on how machine learning benefits and impacts two broad categories of applications at the AIHW: streamlining data-centric processes and generating insights with pattern discovery in health and welfare domain datasets.

    BiographyDr Md Sumon Shahriar is currently working as a senior project manager and team leader for machine learning capabilities, delivering projects, and providing advice and support at the AIHW. Previously, Sumon worked at CSIRO Data61 as a research scientist and at the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care as an assistant director for statistical data modelling. Sumon has a PhD in Computer Science, specialising in the data science and engineering areas.
