Title: Wildfires: Using Statistical and Econometric Models to Forest Management and Public Policy assessment.

Abstract: Wildfires are the main risk that threatened the forestry area and its biodiversity. Most of them are related to human activity so that public policy could prevent its occurrence. Natural events or climate conditions cause other forest fires, so fire prevention and extinction services should be prepared according to these characteristics. On the other hand, the wildfires cause several economic damages to landowners, as well as; lost the timber production and the services that the forest provide him. Likewise, society also lost ecosystem services, such as water quality or air pollution. With this, the presentation is about preventing & avoiding wildfire risk and reduce landowner & society risk exposure. Firstly, it exposes different statistical and econometric models to analyze the relationship between socioeconomic features and wildfires patterns. Secondly, it proposes an insurance model to reduce the landowner's economic damage and to guarantee the provision of ecosystem services. As a future topic, geographical analysis and forest land characteristics will be introduced.

Short Bio: Jesús Barreal Pernas has a Ph.D. in Economy by the University of Santiago de Compostela and is an Assistant Professor of Statistics at the Faculty of Economics & Business at the Complutense University of Madrid. He is an expert in the econometric analysis of environmental resources and sustainability. His current research focuses on the economy of natural resources and of wildfires prevention, addressed through quantitative methods such as panel data and time series analysis to identify their socio-economic implications.
