    UNSW’s Education Focused roles (EF) enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialism will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.

    The School’s undergraduate programs cover a wide spectrum of courses in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics. The School embodies a broad range of areas of applied and pure mathematics and statistics. It has particular strengths in Algebra, Analysis, Combinatorics, Geometry, Mathematical Physics and Number Theory; Bayesian and Monte Carlo Methods, Mathematical Modelling and Biomathematics, Biostatistics and Ecology, Computational Mathematics, Data Science, Dynamical Systems and Integrability, Finance and Risk Analysis, Nonparametric Statistics, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Optimisation, Stochastic Analysis, and Stochastic Modelling and Fractional Calculus.

    The Lecturer - EF carries out teaching and other scholarly activities associated with mathematics and statistics education in the School. This is an Education Focused role.

    About the role

    * Level B - $119K - $140K plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading.

    * Fixed Term – 2 years

    * Full-time (35 hours per week)

    The role of Lecturer - EF reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports.

    Specific responsibilities for this role include:

    * Actively develop educational resources for mathematics and statistics education. This may include the development of online materials, exam materials, and lecture notes.

    * Develop learning and teaching collaborations within the School as well as links with other groups on campus.

    * Actively contribute to learning and teaching seminars within the School, or more broadly.

    * Supervise Honours and Masters Coursework projects if required; and supervise PhD and Masters Research students if required.

    * Teach mathematics and statistics courses to a range of audiences at the University as required.

    * Teach specialist Honours and Masters level courses, if required.

    * Contribute to the design and delivery of the School’s teaching programs and courses.

    * Actively participate in School activities and demonstrate an ability and willingness take on administrative roles in the School.

    * Undertake administrative duties as specified by the Head of School and participate in School, Faculty and/or University committees as required.

    * Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.

    * Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

    About the successful applicant

    (Selection Criteria)

    To be successful in this role you will have:

    * PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics or statistics, and/or relevant work experience.

    * Demonstrated experience in teaching Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, or Statistics.

    * Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g., relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).

    * Demonstrated ability to contribute to online teaching.

    * Capacity to conduct productive research and/or scholarship related to mathematics and statistics education.

    * Experience in student supervision including, e.g., Honours Thesis, Coursework Masters Project, Summer Scholars Project.

    * Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.

    * Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

    * An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

    * Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
