UNSW PhD Scholarship in Data Science & AI

    Applications are open!

The scholarship provides $43,333 per year for 3.5 years, plus ~$20k for travel, training and (where eligible) cost of living payment.

Be embedded directly with Memjet, working to optimise machine and deep learning algorithms that give real-information on print systems for MemJet Cloud Services.

Be trained in AI with Data 61.

And study with the UNSW Data Science Hub.

Open to all domestic applicants. Full time enrolment. Applicants should have a background in at least one of: mathematics, statistics, computer science, probabilistic methodologies, deep and machine learning and experimental design as well as some experience with coding in R or Python. An understanding and enthusiasm for developing new techniques for improving printing technologies is highly desired.

To find out more email the subject line 'Memjet Scholarships' to Professor Spiridon Penev s.penev@unsw.edu.au

    THE PROJECT

Memjet has a cloud services component of its business. This is an in-field print systems monitoring tool, which enables increased customer value, savings and more market and product understanding. When this tool is implemented it will used to predict maintenance, downtime, product performance and durability. In addition, the information from the tool can be used for improved service delivery. The project will develop and optimise machine and deep learning algorithms that are quick and accurate. They will give near real-time information on the ‘condition’ of print systems including hardware, consumables, and print cycles.

A key component of the research will be to identify what information/parameter is relevant to understanding the ‘condition’ of the system, and how these parameters impact on the system in terms of performance and durability.

Part of the CSIRO/Data61 Next Generation Graduates Program scheme.

Project start: Term 1 2026. Position open until filled.
