    - Domestic PhD Scholarship Opportunity: PhD (Data Science) at the University of Newcastle, NSW, in collaboration with the CSIRO

    - Research Project: Multifaceted Clustering of Complex Electricity Time-Series Data to Support Data-Driven Decision-Making in the Energy Sector

    - Outline:

The primary goal of this project is to create clustering methods and appropriate visualisations especially designed for complex time-series data from the energy sector, in collaboration with the CSIRO. The focus is on the development of highly specialised statistical/machine learning techniques able to properly categorise, visualise, model and interpret relevant electricity consumption patterns, while meeting domain-specific requirements, such as suitable characterisation of anomalies and motifs.

The successful candidate will be based in Newcastle, under the primary supervision of Prof. Ricardo Campello (https://www.newcastle.edu.au/profile/ricardo-campello), but s/he will be expected to also work closely with collaborators from CSIRO's Energy Research Group (https://www.csiro.au/en/Research/EF).

    - Funding:

        · Basic Stipend (living allowance) - $28,092 per annum (2020 rate, indexed annually) for a period of 3.5 years
        . CSIRO Top-Up - $10,000 per annum for a period of 3 years
        · Tuition fee scholarship for a maximum of 4 years
        · CSIRO's Annual HDR Research Support - Up to $5,000 per annum for a period of 3 years, conditional to approval of expenses
. University's Annual HDR Research Support (upon application)
. Up to $1,500 relocation allowance (if applicable)

    - Eligibility:

       . Essential

. Domestic student - Australian PR or Citizen
        · Honours OR HDR Master Degree (Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering or related field)
        · Verbal and written communication skills

       . Desirable

        · Programming skills
        · Solid statistics/mathematics/computational background.

    - How to Apply: Please send your CV, academic transcripts as well as an EOI describing how you address the eligibility criteria to Ricardo.Campello@newcastle.edu.au

    - Deadline: applications will be open until January 31st 2021 or until the position is filled, whatever happens first
