The local organising committee warmly invites you to the 2023 Australian Statistical Conference (ASC) and Australian Conference on Teaching Statistics (OZCOTS), which will take place in Wollongong from the 10th to the 15th of December 2023.
The theme for the 2023 Australian Statistical Conference (ASC) is ‘Statisticians in society’, focusing on the key role statisticians play in communication across diverse areas that are key to our society.
ASC 2023 will bring together statisticians from across Australia, as an opportunity to communicate with one another, and advance our collective knowledge of statistical methods and applications. We look forward to offering a diverse program featuring speakers from academia, government and industry across a range of disciplines and career stages. While there is the option to attend online, we would like to encourage everyone to attend in person. The conference is a wonderful opportunity to connect with statisticians from all walks of life.
The conference will be held at the University of Wollongong, situated in the heart of Wollongong. Wollongong is the third-largest city in New South Wales and only an hour from Sydney. Wollongong offers an escape-worthy collection of world-class beaches, playful adventures, eats, arts and iconic attractions.
ASC/OZCOTS 2023 promises to be a truly amazing experience on both a professional and a social level. We look forward to seeing you in Wollongong in 2023!
Some of the things to look forward to:
Incredible Keynote speakers:
Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter
Dr Kalinda Griffiths
Professor Xiao-Li Meng
Professor Julie Simpson
Professor Ian Gordon and
our inaugural Horizon Lectures.
The Horizon Lectures aim to recognise emerging leaders in Australia’s statistics community and their contributions to advancing statistical practice across academia, government, and/or industry. Lectures will be awarded to mid-career statisticians working in any discipline who have made an impact within their field(s) of expertise and have demonstrated leadership in building capacity in statistical expertise within Australia
Social Events and Dinners:
We invite you to attend the Early Career and Student Statisticians Network ASC Social, taking place on 12 December 2023 at the Illawarra Brewery's outdoor terrace of WINN Stadium. This event will be a relaxed get-together for students, early-career statisticians, and seasoned professionals. With beach views as the backdrop, attendees will have the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, discuss career opportunities, while enjoying nibbles and drinks and having fun.
No ASC would be complete without its traditional conference dinner, held on 13 December in the Grand Ballroom of the Sage Hotel. Centrally located within walking distance of all our conference hotels, this is a great venue to socialise and celebrate the spirit of statistics. The dress code for this event is smart casual.
And finally, on 14 December 2023 you can indulge in a fabulous dinner at Lucia’s by the Sea, hosted by OZCOTS. This delightful beachfront venue, next to the Novotel Wollongong, will provide another beautiful setting where you can connect with peers, discuss the conference's insights and enjoy a lovely meal together. The dress code for this event is smart casual.
