PANEL

Associate Professor Linda Selvey, University of Queensland

A/Prof Selvey formerly worked for Queensland Health, starting there as Director of Communicable Diseases Branch in December 1996 and in 2005, then promoted to Executive Director, Population Health Queensland. She remained in this position until moving to Sydney where she took up the position of CEO of Greenpeace Australia Pacific. A/Prof Selvey then moved to Perth and worked at Curtin University, School of Public Health, before joining The University of Queensland.

Adjunct Professor Tarun Weeramanthri, University of Western Australia

Tarun Weeramanthri is an independent consultant in public health and an adjunct professor in the School of Population and Global Health at the University of Western Australia. He is a trained specialist in internal medicine and public health, and has a PhD in social medicine. He was Chief Health Officer in Western Australia (WA) from 2008 to 2018, and in the Northern Territory (NT) from 2004 to 2007. He served on the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) from 2004 to 2018, introduced the WA Public Health Act 2016, and led the public health response in WA to the 2009 influenza pandemic. In 2014, he was awarded the Sidney Sax Medal by the Public Health Association of Australia, for his contribution to public health in Australia. He is currently finalising an Inquiry into the Impacts of Climate Change on Health in WA, on behalf of the WA Government.

Professor Martyn Kirk,  ANU College of Health and Medicine (Now confirmed)

Martyn was on the front line in responding to COVID19 as a member of the team that assisted with Australians returning to Darwin from the Japanese Cruise Ship the Diamond Princess. He has worked for over twenty years in State, Territory and federal health departments in the areas of food, water and infectious diseases. Previously, he ran the Australian Field Epidemiology Training Program - the Master of Philosophy in Applied Epidemiology (MAE). He has consulted for the World Health Organisation on gastrointestinal diseases and is a member of the WHO advisory body - the Foodborne Disease Epidemiology Reference Group. He holds research grants with the National Health & Medical Research Council, the Australian Research Council, and governments within Australia, and chaired the national organising committee for the last two PHAA Communicable Disease Control Conferences.

Dr Craig Dalton, University of Newcastle

Craig Dalton is a public health physician with a MMSc in Clinical Epidemiology from University of Newcastle and is a graduate of the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service, Atlanta, Georgia. He completed a Preventive Medicine Fellowship in the Foodborne and Diarrhoeal Disease Branch at CDC in 1955. He is the founder of Flutracking.net - the largest online participatory surveillance system in the world with over 40,000 Australians reporting their flu-like symptoms every week in winter.

He is a public health physician employed with the NSW Government and conjoint senior lecturer in the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Newcastle. His main experience is in health protection issues - communicable diseases and environmental health.
