Reporting to the Senior Statistical Consultant and Director of MWAC, with a dotted line report to the Director, you’ll contribute to the main objective of Stats Central, to build the statistical capacity of UNSW researchers and research students by advising on or leading study design, analysis, and communication of results; developing and running regular professional development workshops and seminars; and building and maintaining strong relationships to facilitate interdisciplinary research.
The Organisation
Stats Central is a team of eight statisticians offering UNSW researchers support and training in study design and analysis, as part of the university’s 2025 Strategy. It is based in the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre in the Division of Research and Enterprise, a centralised unit that manages major research infrastructure at UNSW and provides relevant technical and consulting expertise.

Who you are:
Level A
You have a PhD and can provide high level statistical and research design advice and support.
You can deliver introductory statistics short courses to applied researchers and assist in development of these courses.
You have proven experience with advanced statistical techniques including multi-level and hierarchical modelling, non-normal data, survival analysis, time series, data imputation methods and meta-analysis.
Level B (in addition to Level A)
You have proven ability and experience in working in a statistical consulting role and reviewing research grants and journal articles.
You have demonstrated ability to provide independent scientific and statistical leadership, and the capacity to review research proposals critically.
You will be able to jointly supervise and assist with the mentoring of students and staff as appropriate.
