AHOC is a research consortium within the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health (SMAH) which aims to improve services and outcomes for patients through benchmarking of care and treatment and supporting service improvement. AHOC generates robust evidence through its provision of clinical quality registries in rehabilitation, pain and palliative care.

The electronic Persistent Pain Outcomes Collaboration (ePPOC) is an initiative within AHOC that was established in 2013 with the Faculty of Pain Medicine. ePPOC collects a standard set of clinical information from specialist pain services. This information is used to guide treatment for individual patients, measure outcomes following treatment and provide a benchmarking system for the pain sector. The benchmarking system is designed to provide comparative data to each pain service, identify best practice protocols and clinical variation, and drive quality improvement through setting aspirational targets for patient outcomes. The information collected by pain services also provides a valuable resource for research into the management of pain in Australia and New Zealand

In this role you will primarily work within ePPOC and be responsible for data management, analysis and reporting of a large Australasian chronic pain outcomes dataset. Within the Applied Statistics in Health team, you will lead activities of the ePPOC data team, who maintain and develop the ePPOC dataset and outputs through quality improvement, methodological innovation, and technological change.

To be successful in this role you will hold a relevant degree with a strong mathematical/statistical component, preferably at postgraduate level (relevant industry experience may be deemed equivalent to a postgraduate qualification). You will have demonstrated experience in data management, project management, and data analysis and modelling with large datasets using SAS and R (three years’ experience in one, and willingness to further develop skills in the other). Experience with automated workflows, such as integrating statistical results into other environments along with a broad understanding of the Australian and/or New Zealand health care system will be highly regarded.
