Tibra Foundation Chair in Mathematical Sciences
University of Wollongong, NSW, Australia
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences
The University of Wollongong’s (UOW) School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics along with the National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA) are looking to appoint the inaugural Tibra Foundation Chair in Mathematical Sciences. Born out of UOW’s and the Tibra Foundation’s mutual commitment to transform the Illawarra region, this appointment will be Australia’s first endowed chair in the mathematical sciences in over a century and a strategically vital leader in UOW’s Data and Decision Sciences Network initiative.
Fully funded through a philanthropic gift from the Tibra Foundation, the Chair will be devoted to at least 80% research for the first five years, and will continue as a permanent teaching and research Professorial position. The appointee will develop a world-leading research program in the area of computational statistics and applications. This will be complemented chiefly by community engagement, such as public lectures, mentoring and prize-award events, advancing the Tibra Foundation’s mission to promote the mathematical sciences. The Tibra Chair will be an intellectual leader within both the academy and the community.
UOW and the Tibra Foundation are seeking a distinguished expert in Bayesian or Computational Statistics who has the vision to conceive and shape exciting research of both local and global significance. An inspirational ambassador for the mathematical sciences, the successful candidate will have a flair for cultivating partnerships within and outside the School, especially in interdisciplinary research, and will have a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
