    About the role

    The incumbent will conduct, lead, and coordinate high-quality research projects, and provide biostatistical advice, to improve health service delivery, evidence-based practice, and patient outcomes across the network and State. The incumbent will be a recognised authority in this highly specialised area.

    The incumbent will provide biostatistical support for research projects and other activities of the  Adelaide Centre for Clinical Epidemiology (EpiCentre). Elements will include design and conduct of statistical analyses, data management (extraction, cleaning, linkage, standardisation etc) and provision of advice to researchers.

    The work of the incumbent will impact CALHN functions as a health service and on the capacity of the CALHN to be a national and international leader in the use of health service information in health care redesign.

    The incumbent plays an integral role in ensuring the efficient and effective operations of CALHN in relation to the management of health service demand.

    The EpiCentre provides a high level consultancy service within the CALHN in order to facilitate and support the organisation’s capacity to analyse and understand the demands placed upon it by the community, to generate flexible, creative, innovative and practical responses to those service demands and evaluate the effectiveness of those responses and the existing services provided by the hospital and its regional partners.

    ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Educational/Vocational Qualifications

    • An appropriate degree in the Health Sciences majoring in biostatistics, epidemiology, statistics or other relevant discipline.

    Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills:

    Demonstrated ability to:

    • Demonstrated ability to exercise significant professional judgement to critically analyse and interpret complex data
    • Ability to provide professional leadership and high level advice on analytical and/or epidemiological issues
    • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and ensure goals are achieved within specified timeframes and a willingness to accept responsibility for work of a high standard
    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including high level presentation skills
    • Ability to work without supervision and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
    • Ability to initiate and improve major program or policy decisions
    • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
    • Ability to translate complex data into a format appropriate for policy formulation
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise and logical manner with all levels of personnel with varying levels of information technology literacy with regard to technical, business and administrative matters.
    • Self-motivate, meet deadlines, manage and organise workloads and priorities and be flexible.
    • Identify and analyse abstract problems of a complex nature, formulate and document practical solutions with recommendations, and implement them within time and budgetary constraints.
    • Work positively and accurately under pressure in pressure situations.
    • Undertake negotiations with internal/external providers and end users.

    Experience

    • Extensive experience in the analysis and design of research studies
    • Extensive experience with regard to the analysis and reporting of complex data using spreadsheet, database and statistical software tools
    • Extensive experience in linking and analysing a range of hospital administrative datasets and other health-related datasets
    • Extensive experience in the conduct of epidemiological research and the preparation and publication of reports on complex epidemiological issues
    • Extensive experience with the use of data management and epidemiological software tools
    • Proven experience in high level computing skills
    • Proven experience in advanced computing skills, including C#, MVC, SQL Server, Pascal, RDB
    • Significant and extensive experience in database and web application, design and development
    • Significant and extensive experience in a technical analyst role within a large and complex projects

    Knowledge

    Detailed knowledge of the systems development life cycle

    • Specialist knowledge of epidemiological techniques
    • Adult learning principles
    • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Applications
    • Awareness of person and family centred care principles and consumer engagement principles and procedures.
    • Expert level of knowledge in the broader health, welfare and government system
    • Expert level of knowledge in biostatistics.
    • Awareness of National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
    • Understanding of Delegated Safety Roles and Responsibilities.
    • Understanding of Work Health Safety principles and procedures.
    • Understanding of Quality Management principles and procedures.
