    REQ 189026 – Trainee Biostatistician, Clerk Grade 7/8, NSW Ministry of Health

    Applications are now being accepted for an intake of Trainee Biostatisticians to commence in mid-February 2021.

    Applications must be submitted online through accessing the advert at: https://jobs.health.nsw.gov.au/jobs/trainee-biostatistician-82419

    Applicants must have an honours degree majoring in statistics, or an equivalent qualification with a substantial statistics component (for example psychology, mathematics or science), and have an aptitude for advanced mathematical work, high level knowledge of statistical concepts and methods, and extensive experience in the use of statistical software packages. Evidence of your qualification and right to work in Australia must be included in your application.

    To be considered for an interview, your application must include the following attachments:

    1. a response to the two targeted questions (no more than 2 pages)
    2. an up to date resume/CV (no more than 5 pages)
    3. a full academic transcript for your qualification(s)
    4. evidence of your right to work in Australia for the duration of the traineeship (e.g. Australian or New Zealand passport or Australian birth certificate, citizenship certificate, or permanent residency visa).

    If your application does not include all of these attachments, you will not be considered for interview.

    TARGETED QUESTIONS

    1. Describe your experience of using statistical software packages to manipulate and analyse data sets, including any experience you have of working with health data.
    2. Provide an example of a project that you have been involved in where you were required to perform a significant amount of data analysis. This could be a project with a large data set, or one where the analysis was complex. Include the project background, your role in the project, how you went about refining the research questions and determining the most appropriate statistical methods, and outline the conclusions from the data analysis in layman’s terms.
