Position overview
The Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Statistics (RSFAS) in the ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (Academic Level B, depending on experience) on a full time fixed-term appointment of 3 years, commencing on 1 July 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, but before the end of 2022. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be located in the charming Acton Campus in Canberra.
The position is offered in connection with the ARC Discovery project “Novel statistical methods for data with non-Euclidean geometric structure”. This Australian Research Council funded Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with the project chief investigators, Professor Andrew Wood and Associate Professor Janice Scealy, on research projects within the primary themes and topics of the Discovery grant. The focus of the project is on developing new modelling and analysis techniques for data with complex, nonlinear geometric structure, examples of which are directions (e.g. wind directions), shapes (e.g. tumour shapes) or compositional data (e.g. geochemical survey data). These projects will range widely from the development of novel statistical theory and methodology, to implementation, statistical computing and software packages, and applied research in relevant interdisciplinary areas.
We are seeking applications from candidates with either a track record or proven potential in statistical research of relevance to the project. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in Statistics or a relevant discipline (e.g. in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or Engineering). For a successful candidate who has not already been awarded a PhD, it is required that the thesis has already been submitted before taking up employment.
